ABQ Mitch Wechsler, Trumpet
Born and raised in New York City, Mitchell started performing at an early age, singing in the children's
chorus at The Metropolitan Opera, attending the Suzuki violin school and eventually starting his trumpet
studies while enrolled at LaGuardia High School of Music and Art. He went on, as a scholarship
student, to earn Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the University of Hartford and Rice
University respectively. While pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree as a graduate assistant at the
University of Georgia, Mitch performed and toured with the Bulldog Brass Quintet and his mentor, Fred
Mills of the Canadian Brass.

As a member of the UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra trumpet section, Mitch performed under the baton
of James Levine for two summers. Annual tours followed with Maestro Levine and Maestro Paavo Järvi
to Europe, North and South America performing on world class stages including Carnegie Hall (USA),
The Philharmonie (Germany), Tonhalle (Switzerland) and Sala Sao Palo (Brazil).

As a freelancer, Mitch has appeared with a diverse group of ensembles including the Grant Park
Festival Orchestra, New World Symphony, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Grand Rapids Symphony,
Kalamazoo Symphony, Broadway Theater Guild Orchestra, Michigan Opera Theater, Ann Arbor
Symphony Orchestra and the Toledo Symphony Orchestra.

His teachers include Armando Ghitalla, Chris Gekker and James Pandolfi.
